Led by direct descendants of New Zealand's early Māori guides, you'll be provided with local insights, knowledge and hospitality that will truly bring to life your experience as you discover how our people adapted to survive life on top of a geothermal plateau.

On our guided tour, you'll:

  • Discover in an authentic Māori village where daily life revolves around natural geothermal resources, used for cooking, bathing, and heating homes for centuries.
  • Witness the awe-inspiring geothermal wonders of Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley, including the iconic Pōhutu geyser, boiling mud-pools, and steam vents.
  • Learn about the challenges and traditions of living in a geothermal plateau, from cooking in bubbling pools to bathing in therapeutic waters.
  • Explore historical landmarks like our active Marae, WWII Memorial Archway, historic churches, and tapu burial grounds.

  • Duration: Stay for three hours, or stay all day the choice is yours, noting we recommend a visit of at least three hours to maximise what we have to offer.

  • Child price applies to ages 5-15 years, entry is free for under 5's.

    Please note there is no access to the geysers from the village - they are viewed from our two lookout platforms.

    Guided tours of 1 hour are available daily at 9am, 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm & 3pm daily.Please note from 1st May 2024 daily tours will be at 9am, 10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm & 3pm, NO 12pm guided tour. Book early as there is a maximum of 20-30 guests per tour to ensure the Safety and Enjoyment of all Visitors.

    PLEASE BE AWARE DISCOUNTS ARE FOR ENTRY ONLY AND RELATE TO THE SPECIFIC ENTRY TIME PURCHASED. FOR EXAMPLE; A 3:00PM TICKET IS NOT ELIGIBLE TO ENTER THE VILLAGE BEFORE 3:00PM ON THE DAY OF ADMISSION. DISCOUNTED TICKETS ARE NON REFUNDABLE & NON TRANSFERABLE.

Tres belle experience et tres interessante, juste tres decu car nous avons ete mis avec un groupe d une ecole et donc le guide n a pas du tout fait le tour donc aucune infos partage, mais heureusement nous avons reussi a se mettre avec un autre groupe avec une guide super et de tres bonnes informations partagees

Très bien

J'ai eu droit à une visite perso vu qu'il n'y avait personne d'autre. Et j'ai pu me promener dans le village sans groupes de touristes ! La visite était très bien, même si un peu courte. C'est intéressant de voir commends Maoris vivent et cuisinent. Mikaidi était adorable, merci Le show était un peu court aussi mais joli. Les chants m'ont donné des frissons.
