Taking inspiration from the vast Southern landscape & all that epitomizes New Zealand, Rata provides a 'uniquely Southern' dining experience in Queenstown.

The first collaboration between Josh Emett- Internationally recognised, Michelin Starred Chef & celebrity Judge on NZ Masterchef and highly regarded local restaurateur, Fleur Caulton, Rata is widely recognised as one of NZ's leading contemporary restaurants.

Tucked discreetly behind the 1876 Courthouse and other heritage Buildings, the decor uses warm, earthy tones & influences from the landscape.

The entire back wall is lit with a magnificent photograph of lush Native Forest and this unique touch, mixed with local polished stones, natural woods and other very modern, industrial components make the dining room both sophisticated and quirky at the same time.

The menu showcases Seasonal produce from the best growers and producers NZ had to offer, changing regularly and paired with a wine list that proudly highlights an eclectic mix of highly regarded and little known gems, from both the Central Otago Region and further afield.

A large collection of wines by the glass offer the diner variety and the opportunity to match their chosen drop with their meal, and here the knowledgeable staff are more than happy to offer up suggestions.

  • Seared Wakanui sirloin, crispy ox tongue, oyster cream, edamame

  • Pan fried blue cod, green lipped mussels, baby leek, radish, roast garlic butter

    Superb foods and casual setting

    We had a three-course dinner. All are excellent. The local red recommended by a waitress is very nice too. Would definitely come back.

    Great fine dining

    Great quiet location among all noisy restaurants in Queenstown. The concept of RATA is natural forest. It makes you feel very relax and enjoying the food with amazing taste. It’s a must visit restaurant. I have been there twice and every time I always have greay joy.

    I had the grilled octopus for a starter, lamb for the main dish and berries with crumble and mascarpone cheese and everything was fantastic! Service was great too.
